Software configuration management
(SCM) is an important discipline in professional software development
and maintenance. When software is build, change happens that needs to
be effectively control, manage and monitor. Software Configuration
Management is a set of activities that are designed to control change
by identifying the work products likely to be change by establishing
relationships among them and defining a mechanism for managing
different versions of these work products. In Software Configuration Management (SCM), the major responsibility is to hold ‘in trust’ the software assets of the organization as these assets are widely used by a large number of cooperating stakeholders. The main objective of SCM is to control changes in large and complex software systems, to manage and track the various corrections, extensions, and revisions that are applied to a system over its lifetime.
